Islington
This is a great base to explore the capital with excellent transport connections – and it's a fascinating part of London in its own right. Lots of restaurants and cafés, more theatres than anywhere else outside the West End, museums and galleries, markets and specialist shops. And it's an important centre for family research and genealogy. So use the Kandara as your base to explore this corner of the real London.

Almeida Theatre - small but highly acclaimed theatre.

Arsenal Football Club - premier league football at Highbury.

Business Design Centre - major exhibition and conference venue with stunning interior.

Camden Passage Antiques Market - over 300 shops and stalls - main days Wednesday and Saturday.

Crafts Council - UK headquarters of the Council with a gallery, library, shop and café.

Estorick Collection of Modern Italian Art - Futurist art in a Grade II listed building.

Family Records Centre - main centre for registers of births, deaths, marriages etc in England and Wales since 1837. Also close to the London Metropolitan Archives and the Society of Genealogists. This makes Islington a major centre for family research and genealogy.

King's Head Pub Theatre - long-standing pub-theatre with many shows transferring to the West End.

London Canal Museum - the Regent's Canal runs through Islington so it's fitting that this museum should be based here.

Marx Memorial Library - socialist library/archives. Labour and working class movement history.

Museum of the Order of St John - The story of the Knights of the Order of St John.

Sadler's Wells - Newly rebuilt, this is a world class centre for dance and opera.

Wesley's Chapel, House and Museum of Methodism - A centre for methodism dating from 1778.

Other neighbouring areas
Kandara is also handy if you're visiting other local areas. To the east is Hackney, (which includes areas like Dalston, Stoke Newington, Hoxton and Shoreditch). Among other highlights, Hackney boasts some of the best Turkish and Vietnamese food in London.

South east lies Tower Hamlets home of the Tower of London and some of London's most interesting markets (Brick Lane, Spitalfields and Colombia Road flower market).

To the west is Camden - British Museum, British Library, Hampstead Heath and Camden Lock market among many others.
